Flexes the elbow with the forearm in neutral. Trigger points here are common in everyday and athletic populations and frequently contribute to the referred pain patterns described below.
Trigger point locations
Lateral forearm just distal to the lateral epicondyle.
Referred pain pattern
Lateral epicondyle, dorsum of the hand and the web space of the thumb.
Palpation & testing
Palpate the muscle belly along its accessible course. Reproduction of the patient's familiar pain on palpation supports involvement.
Common causes
Repeated hammer use, mouse use, manual labor.
Self-care & clinical treatment
Eccentric work, soft-tissue release. Clinically: needling and address grip mechanics.
