Palpation & testing
Palpate the muscle belly along its accessible course. Reproduction of the patient's familiar pain on palpation supports involvement.
Common causes
Tight shoes, overpronation, intrinsic weakness.

Toe spreading drills, shoe width assessment. Clinically: needling.
