Overview

Flexes the elbow and supinates the forearm; assists shoulder flexion. Trigger points here are common in everyday and athletic populations and frequently contribute to the referred pain patterns described below.

Trigger point locations

Anterior upper arm along both heads.

Referred pain pattern

Anterior shoulder pain over the bicipital groove and elbow crease.

Palpation & testing

Palpate the muscle belly along its accessible course. Reproduction of the patient's familiar pain on palpation supports involvement.

Common causes

Heavy curling, prolonged carrying, repeated overhead reaching.

Self-care & clinical treatment

Eccentric loading, postural reset. Clinically: needling, address scapular control.
