Palpation & testing
Palpate the muscle belly along its accessible course. Reproduction of the patient's familiar pain on palpation supports involvement.
Common causes
Sprinting, post-surgical disuse, ischial overload.
Self-care & clinical treatment
Eccentric work, gait retraining. Clinically: needling.
